Super-Charged Giving

The Professional's Guide to Strategic Philanthropy

Choose Your Grant Type to Fit Your Style

It is very important that grantmakers match the grant tools they choose to the style they wish to practice.  Choose among various grant systems such as (1) Strategic, (2) Transom, (3) Request For Proposals, (4) Discretionary, and other (5) Uniform processes.  Select from a broad array of grant types such as programmatic, operating, capital, or endowment.  Finally, use a style of grantmaking that matches your intent such as a "communitarian" might do to focus on a specific geographic area or a defined population such as "all tall people".  Another style is that of a "venture capitalist" which relies on high risk and careful measurement/accountability.
